The second of my final year self-initiated projects was to

develop a semi self-promotional device choosing a theme I felt

reflects me as an illustrator. Consistency was key in this project

and I wanted to produce a device that worked as a set. I chose

to base my self- promotional device on tarot cards and decided

to re-design them to portray my own aspirations and goals.

I used the 9 cards chosen whilst reading my own tarot as a

starting point and developed some criteria that I wanted each

card to meet:

Each card needed to have three elements; an animal that I

believe has the same characteristics as the chosen card. A letter

that represents the card’s name and a symbol that I believe is

representational of both the animal and the card’s meaning.

It was important that the final outcome acted as a business

card and had to contain my professional information and

contact details. It was also important to make the reasoning

behind the design clear by each card containing its name and

an explanation of its meaning.

For the purposes of this project, birdhouse sampled from Bomo Art

wrapping paper.
